An Independent High Street

We’re lucky to have a thriving high street in Lyme Regis and one of the consequences of lockdown has been for many of us to appreciate the job that our local shops do for us. Yes, the prices may be slightly higher, but that’s because these guys pay their taxes which ultimately comes back around. And the products and service are so much more individual in nature than the big stores.

With that in mind, we’ve compiled a list of where we do our shopping. Hopefully it will inspire you to explore our local high street while you’re here.

FOR HOMEWARES:

Ryder and Hope focus on ethical, locally made homewares and clothing in muted, natural colourways. Interior designers Alice and Michelle run the store so the products are beautifully styled and come gift wrapped on request. Highlights include hand thrown ceramics by local potter Ali Herbert and the softest, cosiest Alpaca bed socks.

FOR FOODIES:

Ammonite Fine Foods brings together the best of Dorset’s produce. From chutneys to chocolate with a vast selection of South West Gins. There are often tastings going on in store to help you choose your goodies. The knowledgeable staff will happily help you put together a hamper or guide you towards the best tonic for your Gin!

FOR SPORTY TYPES:

Boylos Watersports stocks a great selection of equipment and clothing for surfing, paddleboarding or just splashing around in the water. The staff are all watersports enthusiasts so can guide you through the technical side of any kit. There is also a wide selection of fashion wear / surf wear and accessories should you have forgotten your beachwear.

FOR ART LOVERS:

Town Mill Galleries have events throughout the year showcasing local artists and are a great place to pick up original art at entry level prices.

Just next to Town Mill Galleries is the beautiful studio of Molesworth and Bird which showcases their seaweed art, all created from locally foraged plants.

FOR GIFTS:

Coombe Street Gallery has a great selection of hand-picked gifts from jewellery and homewares to paintings and decorations. Their vibrant style is sure to bring a smile to your face and gift wrapping is available too.

FOR FASHIONISTAS:

Kathrens Rare Knitwear is the ultimate in individuality. Unique designs abound, be it jackets and cardigans or the signature ‘Sari Scarf’. Many items are upcycled from old cashmere. Bespoke pieces can be created to your specifications. The shop is located opposite Town Mill Bakery which is perfect for a reviving coffee and cake stop.
