THINGS TO DO IN LYME REGIS – ON THE WATER

We’re so lucky to have stunning coastline as far as the eyes can see – and there are plenty of opportunities to make the most of the sea. Here are our favourite things to do on the water:

Fishing in Lyme Regis

GO FISHING

Our favourite way to spend an afternoon on a boat is in the genial company of Harry May. His fishing tours (bookable in advance) include all equipment such as life vests and fishing rods and you will be shown the best tips and tricks to catch mackerel or other fish. If you are lucky and catch some for your supper, hire a BBQ from Blue Lias Gallery and cook your catch on the beach.

PADDLEBOARD

This summer’s craze has certainly kept our family entertained. Paddleboarding is the perfect way to explore the coves & beaches. Take a lesson from Boylos’ fully qualified instructors based on the promenade. They will teach you good technique as well as ensure that you are aware of safety on the water.

KAYAK

If standing up isn’t your thing, how about a more traditional paddle? Kayaks, both single and double, can be hired next to the sandy beach. Our top tip would be to paddle around the Cobb along Monmouth Beach (check out the amazing seaweed formations) and past the headland to Pinhay where there is a lovely tiny beach, only accessible by boat.

RIB RIDE

For an exhilarating thrill, you can travel at speed on a RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat) across the bay. Have a quick whizz across the bay, or book one of the tours  with Lyme Rib Rides that take in sights from Beer Head to West Bay. The rides leave from The Cobb and must be pre-booked.

WILD SWIM

The benefits of wild swimming have been well catalogued and a sunrise dip in our gorgeous bay certainly lifts the spirits. In terms of things to do in Lyme Regis, this would be top of our list. If you need some encouragement, Lyn swims most mornings before breakfast and is always happy to take guests along for a dip.

If you are wanting to swim more seriously, we have a fantastic swim coach locally who can help work on swim technique or fitness. Malcolm from Lyme Bay Swimming offers private lessons in the bay whenever conditions permit.

Just Be - On the Beach

And of course, there’s very little in life that can beat the relaxing effect of listening to the waves breaking on the shore. For the best effect, aim to be on the beach for sunrise to really appreciate just how lucky we are here in Lyme Regis.
